You Can Now Disable All Videos in Spotify

Let's be real: when you open Spotify, you're probably there for the music. You want to curate playlists, discover new artists, maybe sing along with some lyrics. What you don't want is to scroll past endless video content or have looping visuals distracting you from your carefully chosen tunes. For years, many of us have wished for a pure, audio-only Spotify experience to save data, battery, and our sanity.

Well, good news, music lovers: Spotify is finally hearing us! They're rolling out a fantastic new feature that lets you disable ALL video content in the app. This isn't just about turning off those looping "Canvas" videos (though that's included). We're talking about full-blown music videos, vertical videos from artists, and any other visual distractions. Spotify is getting back to its roots as an audio-first platform, and we couldn't be happier.

How to Banish Videos from Spotify

Getting your Spotify back to an audio-only haven is straightforward. Here’s how:

On Your Phone (Mobile App)

  1. Open Spotify and tap the profile icon in the top-left corner.
  2. Go to Settings and privacy > Content and display.
  3. Scroll down to the "Videos and Canvas" section.
  4. Toggle off the following three options:
    • Music videos
    • Canvas
    • All other videos

On Your Desktop

  1. Open Spotify and click your profile icon.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Display.
  3. You'll find the same toggles there to banish videos from your desktop listening.

A Quick Note: While the "Canvas" toggle has been around for a while, the "Music videos" and "All other videos" settings are brand new. If you don't see them yet, don't fret! Spotify is rolling this out gradually, so they should appear on your device in the coming weeks.

Managing Videos for Family Plans

If you're a family plan manager, you've got extra control! You can disable videos for other users on your plan, too:

  1. In Spotify's mobile app, tap your profile icon.
  2. Select Your Premium > Manage.
  3. Pick the profile you want to adjust.
  4. Go to Videos and Canvas and turn off all three video toggles.

Once you’ve applied these settings on one device, Spotify promises they'll sync to all other devices logged into the same account. No need to repeat the process everywhere!

Now, for a minor caveat: this feature won't turn off video ads or those looping visuals sometimes accompanying audio ads. Still, it's a huge step in the right direction. I'm already using this feature and hoping Spotify eventually lets us filter out podcasts and audiobooks too, allowing us to truly focus exclusively on the music. Go forth and enjoy your distraction-free listening!
