Google’s ‘Dreambeans’ App Generates 'News Stories' Based on Your Life

Tired of endlessly scrolling through a news feed filled with headlines that, let's be honest, have little to do with your actual life? We all know the drill: infinite doom-scrolling, chasing that elusive "one more interesting story" until your thumb is numb and your eyes are glazed over. Google, ever the innovator, is pitching a fascinating alternative that aims to curb that habit, not feed it: enter Dreambeans.

This new app from Google Labs flips the script on news aggregation. Instead of serving you generic world events, Dreambeans generates highly personalized "news stories" based directly on what's happening in your world. The goal? To give you actionable insights and relevant information, making your "news" feed genuinely useful.

How Your Life Becomes the News

The magic starts when you connect Dreambeans to your existing Google ecosystem. Think Gmail, Calendar, Photos, YouTube, or even your Search history. Dreambeans then "pores over" your data (don't worry, we'll get to the privacy bit) to spot important events or activities. The more apps you connect, the richer your personalized stories become.

Imagine this:

  • Dog Training Level-Up: You get an email confirming your dog's new training treats are on the way. Dreambeans spots this in Gmail and instantly generates an article featuring top tips for using those treats to maximize your pup's training success. Talk about timely!
  • Local Hangout Hero: Your Google Calendar shows a friend visiting this weekend. Knowing you have a dog (thanks, Photos and previous activities!), Dreambeans might whip up a story highlighting dog-friendly restaurants near your place, complete with reviews and directions.

If a story catches your eye, you can "dive deeper." Dreambeans will pull extra context from the wider internet, much like AI Overviews in Google Search. That dog training article could suddenly include info on local dog parks or nearby obedience classes. You can save any of these stories to a personal library, and even give feedback to refine future generations. Plus, each story comes with a unique AI-generated illustration, sometimes even pulling from your own Google Photos.

The Privacy Catch and How to Try It

Before you excitedly connect everything, a quick heads-up: Dreambeans isn't a privacy-first app. It collects a significant amount of data linked to your identity, including purchases, contacts, search history, and usage data. While Google already has much of this, it's worth knowing what you're signing up for. You can delete your Dreambeans data anytime, but it's important to understand the trade-offs.

For now, Dreambeans is exclusive to Google AI Ultra subscribers (

00/month, ouch!). But don't despair! Google has opened a waitlist for everyone with a Google Account. You can join it now and download the app on both iOS and Android.

Is Dreambeans the future of personalized information? It’s an intriguing concept for anyone looking to make their digital life more relevant and less scroll-heavy. Will you be joining the waitlist?
